The impending winter storm is set to begin across the south-central U.S. on Friday.

The National Weather Service predicted 5 to 10 inches of rain in much of the Bay Area over the course of several days. Strong winds are also possible through the week, especially from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The Lake Tahoe area was expecting high winds and rain from Saturday to Monday, with snow above 8,000 feet elevation.
