Happy birthday to Austrian composer and music theorist Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951)! In his fifth Norton Lecture at Harvard University in 1973, entitled "The Twentieth Century Crisis", Leonard Bernstein examined Arnold Schoenberg's movement toward atonality with the introduction of a new "ambiguous wrinkle", Sprechstimme, in his Opus 21, 'Pierrot Lunaire'.
